Television has been our biggest medium of entertainment for long. However, with the evolution of the internet, the monopoly broke and people started looking for a new kind of fun through the internet. Social media is one such kind of source of refreshment. Then we witnessed how slowly OTT platforms established their roots in our country and web series became the most-watched content among people of the new generation. Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hotstar are few very popular platforms that took over the digital space like a storm.
Then Covid happened. We all were at home and those who had internet access lapped up multiple web series on OTT platforms. With lockdown outside, it was binge-watching; nonstop, morning, day, and night. That further accelerated the growth and business of the OTT platforms like hell.
I am also one such person who got caught by web series fever during the first lockdown time. I was on maternity break and totally mad because of postpartum bugs. So I thought to change my mind by watching a few popular web series. I was already late to the party, however, I took help from my husband and decided to jump into this world where there is no wait for the next episode, no ad, and no shortage of options. However, there was one more person whom I had to include in my web series watch; my 7 years old firstborn. There was no escape. His school was shut and going out was not allowed at all.
We started with a series that seemed a clean story. It is free from unnecessary adult content, violence, and cuss words (limited I would say). It is "Scam 1992" based on the life of stockbroker Harshad Mehta. The story is tight and kept both of us hooked until we finished it. Let me be honest here I had to explain things to my boy and I skipped a big part of it while describing the story. But Vibhu watched all episodes with me. The web series made me understand how the stock market runs and what loopholes made Harshad Mehta made enormous money back then.
For Vibhu, the interest factors were Gujarati dialogues and Pratik Gandhi's performance. Although he is too young to understand the whole plot, however, he liked that we can watch back-to-back episodes without any break. Yes, we all are sick of those long TV breaks that kill total interest in shows. Vibhu repeated a dialogue from the series for days "Risk hai to Ishq hai.." The best thing about this 10 episode series is that it leaves the decision on us whether Harshad was a victim or a criminal. At the same time, it shows us the person he was! Also, this is one such series that we can watch full family. Vibhu and I had a great start and we kept on watching more such good web series one after other.

Lovely that you found a great series to watch with your little one. Mine is still into animation as yet.
ReplyDeleteAnimated ones are still good. They are free from violence and over dramatic stuff.
DeleteIt's great that you had fun watching series with your son. You can also watch just add magic on Amazon prime. A clean series for kids, and enjoyable for adults too.
ReplyDeleteSure I will check this with Vibhu. Thank you :)
DeleteReally great you found this web series. Else it is so tedious to find something watchable with kids. The last I remember watching Loki with my son but I guess we didn't get past the third episode!
ReplyDeleteHow old is your son? Mine has completed Loki with his cousin long ago. Vibhu is actually big fan of all marvel characters. Thanks to his father!!
DeleteIt's tough to decide whether OTT is a Pandora's box or a treasure trove. Suddenly, You find a gems like such series!!!
ReplyDeleteTrue that. Thanks for stopping by.
DeleteAbsolutely !! This pandemic taught us to more vigilant what we watch with kids and glad you have selected this series!!
ReplyDeleteYes you said it right. Thank you.
DeleteGlad that you could survive your postpartum blues through TV series. Usually they are my go-to too for an escape from anything bugging me.
ReplyDeleteAt-least some time we can forget about our real lives :)
DeleteSpending relaxing time with children is the best time of life. They grow up very fast. You are creating memories which you will cherish throughout life.
ReplyDeleteYes Indeed, thank you for your comment.
DeleteYou can try bewitched, small wonders, full house with your son. These are classic series that still have a lot of charm.
ReplyDeleteI love bewitched and small wonders. They are our childhood time classic shows.
DeleteI loved Scam. An absolute thriller.
ReplyDeleteIt is a good watch really.
DeleteLoved your article!
ReplyDeleteThank you
DeleteGood to know. Even we are hooked to web series these days. They are fun to watch indeed
ReplyDeleteThat is a better content than TV daily soaps.
DeleteI so enjoyed watching SCAM 1992 too. Glad to know that Vibhu found it engrossing. Risk hai toh Ishq hai is truly a very catchy line!
ReplyDeleteHaha.. we are still using it for teasing each other.
Deletegreat you have enjoyed web series with your son. I enjoy watching their cartoon movies with my kids. sonic, Rava and last dragon.
ReplyDeleteI also do that. However Vibhu is in transition phase where he wants to behave like a grown up boy. Hence he is inclined towards stuff that mumma papa watch :)
DeleteJust asking....Isn't Vibhu too young to be watching Scam? Yes, it was a great series but kids should be watching series meant for children is what I feel. Don't mind but I am a grandmother, so I know that my grandsons also are not allowed to watch any shows not meant for kids.
ReplyDeleteYou are right, I also mentioned this in my post. That's why I opted something which is relatively clean story. I have seen cartoons far more harmful than other shows. I was not sure about the complete plat when we started. But Vibhu continued watching it with me.
DeleteOTT platforms have definitely made TV viewing a whole lot enjoyable!
ReplyDeleteTotally agree with you.
DeleteGood that you got a chance to watch web series with him. Mine are still into animation. But we have started with dog movies.
ReplyDeleteI am really amazed to see how fast he is understanding things. Now he has passed age of cartoon and see more of super here and sci-fi movies.
DeleteYes, I also liked the series Scam 1992. Actually, OTT platform has taken over a rage but you have to filter so much if you are watching with your family and children. But yes, after searching you do get good results ocassionally.
ReplyDeleteAgree with you Geethica. There is a flood of content on OTT platforms. But you have to find the one that suits your taste.
DeleteI haven't watched Scam 1992 but heard a lot about it. Glad Vibhu liked a mature movie. It must've been a but bland for him though!
ReplyDeleteHe doesn't understand the full context but he liked it as I was narrating him it like a story. He found the story likable :)
DeleteThis is such an amazing series. Even my son enjoyed watching it. Thats a perfectly penned article..lover reading it
ReplyDeleteThank you Yogita :)
DeleteI also became fan of Pratik Gandhi after watching his performance in Scam 1992. Indeed a worth watching series with whole family!

His acting is really commendable. He did complete justice with his role.
DeleteIts good to know that you stumbled upon a series you could watch with your son. I've been stuck watching Kicks and Just add Magic on Prime. Helps to bond with kids i guess
ReplyDeleteDeepika Sharma
This series a bit mature for a 7 year old. However my boy kept watching it with me as I was converting it as a story that he could understand :)
DeleteWow! you watched this with your 7 year old? I totally avoided watching it as it had objectionable language. Even though my twins are 12 year old, we have set up a separate watching channel for them. But I guess to each his own. :)
ReplyDeleteWhen you have a child with you, it takes longer to choose an appropriate show. I haven't watched this show but I've heard of it. Will see if I can watch it sometime.
ReplyDeleteI like your idea of including an audio version of the post.
Web series and TV helped all of us during covid times and good to know you and Vibhu enjoyed the series together.
ReplyDeleteGlad that you could relate with your kid. My kids are too small to watch series. They coudnt sit for like 10 minutes into a movie without a demand to change it haahha
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed watching Scam last year when we all were cooped up at our homes.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, You've just attained a milestone in growth
ReplyDeleteHave a great time with your fav series. Enjoyed reading your experience and views.
ReplyDeleteGlad that you managed to connect with your son over entertainment during these tough times.

Lovely that you found something interesting which you can watch with little one.
ReplyDeleteI have heard of the web series but haven't had a chance to catch it yet. It is difficult to find an appropriate web series to watch with a child. Glad you were able to enjoy this one with him.
ReplyDeleteThat's great to hear that something nice is there to watch with our little ones otherwise most of the series or programs are full of violence or with something irritating type content. Thanks for sharing this.
ReplyDeleteI haven't watched this series yet, my husband had been asking me to watch it for so long but I am stuck to K-dramas. My son on the other hand, doesn't watch anything apart from cartoons. He sits with us for a while but then gets bored and leaves.
ReplyDeleteNice to read about a web series
ReplyDeleteI didn't expect a child to be interested in such a web series. It is rare to find shows that you can watch with children. I enjoyed reading your post.
ReplyDeleteI love finding shows that I can watch with someone. Currently my mom and I are binging on the Good Doctor on Netflix and it has been great :)
ReplyDeleteThis show was refreshing in so many ways, informative, good actors, simple and to the point. I loved that there was no abusing for the heck of it or that there was any sexual scenes, just because. It stuck to the plot and the story throughout and that was really appreciated.
ReplyDeleteWatching series or movies with the company is great. Hope you had fun.😊
ReplyDeleteOh nice. Was looking for something in Hindi to watch with the kids. Watched all the English ones till now.
ReplyDeleteIt is good that you guys enjoyed the series together but I wonder there will be some awkward moments because there are abuses in the series.
ReplyDeleteScam 1992 is one of teh popular series and we also liked watching it with family.
ReplyDeleteScam1992 was a favourite at our house too. Both my boys loved it!
ReplyDeleteI am going to watch this series with my daughter. We watched many series too on OTT platforms to help us stay entertained
ReplyDeleteI have watched this series and loved it. OTT platform has many good shows which are dedicated to children. Do try them out.
ReplyDeleteclean stories on OTT that too other than kids is really difficult to find. Thanks for telling.
ReplyDeleteGlad that you found something to watch together with your kid. Let me check out this series asap.
ReplyDeleteThe concept might be hard for him. But yes it is difficult to find good series to share with kids. This is clean series.
ReplyDeleteSreeparna
I feel watching series together is a great way to bond. Scam was really a well-made series with some fantastic performances.
ReplyDeleteIt's actually quite great that you could find a clean web series to watch with your child. These days its unfortunately becoming quite difficult to find such ones
ReplyDeletePandemic brought different hobbies or options to als of us. Right from myself to my wife to our son, we found either cycling or painting or watching webseries from time to time during the last 1.5 years. I could soo relate to your post where we happily shared recommendations, watched each others series playlist and enjoy family time together..
ReplyDeleteYou've found a binge partner in your son. How nice!
ReplyDeleteScam 92 is a fabulous movie and I'm pleasantly surprised your child loved such a deep movie. #MyFriendAlexa #TinasPicks
