When it comes to parenting, there is no rule or practice that fits for all. Every family make it's new parenting aims and try to achieve them in their own way. As every kid is unique, likewise, every parent is also unique. Each of us who are parents analyses our parenting duties differently and performs them in a manner that suits us the most. As an informed mother of this new age, I read a lot of parenting post. In fact, I also write and share my parenting experiences and wisdom with others. And as this year has come close to end, I thought to share what I read the most during this year 2017.
I read a lot about how technology can make us better parents. I was amazed to read about some fabulous kids tracking devices and augmented reality apps. Then I read a lot about baby-led weaning and how to add more nutrients to the food for the better development of kids. Some thoughtful articles over mom-shaming and abrupt society norms make me feel more confident and positive about myself. With my reading experience, here I am sharing top 3 trends in parenting post that I noticed throughout the year :
1. Longer breastfeeding: Generally we have been told that a new mother should breastfeed her baby up to a minimum of 6-9 months. And most mothers were doing just that. Clearly, breastfeeding is a personal choice, but most mothers who carried on beyond 2 years or more, avoided telling this to other people for the fear of being judged. The concept of limited breastfeeding was wired in our minds and if people saw a mother feeding her baby beyond 2 years, they assumed mother a lazy lad. Now, there were a good number of post that I read wherein mothers shared their breastfeeding journey, all of them carried on breastfeeding beyond 2 years. My most recent read was about a mother who continued breastfeeding her child till she was 4 and half years old. I found this sort of eye-opener for me and for other people as well. Many mothers accepted their extended breastfeeding trek and even suggested other mothers how to feel positive about breastfeeding. Undoubtedly, breastfeeding gives mammoth of benefits to both the mother and the baby. But with breaking the taboo, it's really commendable that mothers are breastfeeding their kids along with managing their work and other responsibilities. Hats off to all of them!
2. No screen time for kids: Today's tech-cautious parents are refusing to let their kids bathe in the glow of computers, smartphones and tablets. The decision to go screen-free often meant the working couple has to put in extra effort to keep their children busy. And that's why they are spending a good amount of time and money both in searching for options that can keep kids engaged for a longer time. This year, I read reviews of many Activity boxes that comes with different age-appropriate activities for kids. One such activity box I also received and I found my son like it a lot. A child’s brain needs a stimulating environment in which it can develop. Since most kids learn through their play, parents are preferring different games, activities and toys over phone apps. Memory games, word and number games, painting and reading activities, all these are the key ingredients of cognitive development in kids. And realizing this many brands have launched their Educational Activity Boxes For kids. Other than activity boxes, I read about countless kids books. The aim was to raise readers at home and also to keep kids away from the screen. Many bloggers wrote about books that are good for even kids below 1. And from there only, I came to know about Fabric/cloth books.
3. Reading about New Baby Care Products : I can't even count how many product reviews I read this year. Most of them were baby care products. With the launch of many international baby care brands in India, their products started getting popular among parents and of-course among bloggers . For the same product, I read close to 10 articles. And a few new products, I tried as well.
Reviews solve three problems:
1. They tell parents whether any item is worth buying.
2. With reading personal stories, parents feel a connect with the writer and trust his/her recommendation.
3. Readers get to know about new brands and any offer if they are giving.
Have a look at some facts why reviews are so important for brands :

Have a look at some facts why reviews are so important for brands :
- 70% of customers consult reviews or ratings before making a final purchase.
- 63% of consumers are more likely to purchase from a site if it has product ratings and reviews.
- 67% of consumers read 6 reviews or less before they feel they can trust a business enough to make a purchase.
- As many as 79% of consumers trust product reviews as much as a personal recommendation.
- 80% of consumers have changed their mind about purchases based on NEGATIVE information they have found online.
- On average, 75 percent of reviews posted on review websites are positive, and 71 percent of consumers agreed that reviews make them more comfortable that they are purchasing the right product or service.
As a reader, I always look for a mix of both positive and negative reviews of any product. And if I found any blog explaining both good and bad about a product, a psychological trigger made me trust the site or the writer. As a parent, I want to read honest reviews and despite I read enormous review post this year, only a few could convince me actually.
Overall, my parenting has improved a lot during this year 2017. And I would definitely give some credit to these blogs that I read for finding the solution of my parenting issues.
