My 'Invisible' Accomplishments #DecadeHop #RRxMM

As we entered 2020, through this post I am trying to contemplate the coolest, most daring, and most significant feats of my life during the last decade. Now the more I regress my memory, the more I feel there are two types of achievements or accomplishments that I can ponder upon; Visible and Invisible. Visible ones are those that I can count on my finger like a parrot and others can nod also. I got specs on, married to a not-so-romantic man, produced a baby, started writing and added good 17 kgs in my body volume (I was 50 in 2011). However, there are many invisible accomplishments too that either I know silently or very few can assert.

From 2011 to 2019, Who am I now

My invisible accomplishments by Vibhu & Me
From a coy soul to now an outspoken woman, the trek was not easy. I achieved it. From being a no-makeup girl to now a lipstick swatches observer, the transition was tough. But it happened. And from being a sweet hater to now a sweet lover, the change was mysterious yet occurred. And now I can die for Gulab Jamuns. And I also reached from making papad parathas to now perfect layered ones. Cooking was for me Edison's experiment. I discovered many ways of not doing things and managed to learn out of failures.

I have learned how to adjust and negotiate. Credit is of course to my marriage and my job. For that matter, I realized all contacts need adjustments. Be it your family or official. Suddenly I started to care about all Chachi ji, mami ji, admin, helpdesk, IT persons. From being a silent observer, I am now a voice raiser. I am now more considerate of other people and try to offer help as much as I can. I never cared about the environment and sustainability, but during the last few years, I have become a flag bearer of sustainable living.

I must include a few lines about my professional achievements. The visible accomplishment of course is, starting as a junior software person to now a project manager, I added many feathers, roles, and awards in my hat. However, the invisible achievement in the last 10 years is understanding personalities and how they think about office work.  Getting things timely done from them is the biggest fulfillment and if that happens without reminder emails or retrospection, it is a non-apparent achievement.

The value of  'Invisible' Accomplishments

There were many inner demons and shortcomings that I overcame too in the last decade. But the fact of the matter is, most of us do not talk about unseen, un-realistic, non-medal worthy achievements. For example; at the beginning of the decade I could not address a reception desk or customer care helpline, without rehearsing or flow-charting what I need to say. Now it is like nothing. No one appreciated that improvement. No training was given to me, and unless I thank myself for this and my other hidden achievements, it is all thankless work.

I may not get a medal for scoring good in achievements marathon. However, I managed to live and learn. And believe me, most of what we humans accomplishes on any given day is very hard to see.

  1. You are so right when you say that we easily brush aside some tiny achievements that we make everyday. And it's so important to pat ourselves on the back for all that. I'm so glad you did that Shipra and shared a valuable insight with us. Wish you luck!💐💐

In the larger scheme of things, it is these tiny invisible achievements that qualify for progress.

If not anybody else, we ourselves need to acknowledge them.

  25. So often we expect change in the outside environment, in the people we encounter on a daily basis, in our family members! When we ourselves change from within then our perception of the outside too changes. But the change in ourselves is hardly noticed nor appreciated most times. What a lovely post which highlighted just this!!

  50. It's the smaller achievements that make our life richer. You may call them invisible and they may be so for others, but as long as you see them for what they are - turning points in your life when you did something spectacular - that's all that matters. Wishing the voice-raiser, the sweet-lover, and the impromptu talker in you more such valuable moments of self-discovery in the coming decade.

My Monsoon Love Hate Love Story

Last year, almost the same time, I packed every belonging of mine and landed to a place which is close to my heart. With bag and baggage, my family moved from Delhi to Lucknow. It was monsoon time when I came here and thank god I witnessed a prosperous rain. Lucknow, though smaller compared to Delhi, is a place I distinguish since childhood. The city of Nawabs is believed as the happiest city in India. As our move was well calculated, my husband and I made sure to have all those things in our lives that I missed being in Delhi. A bigger house (that we can afford), green surroundings, street food access that we missed in Delhi and people who talk in our native tongue. The Hate Story I hated the rain when I was in Delhi. My house was in a busy lane of a crowded Delhi locality, and I was living on the second floor of the building. Hence neither I had easy access to the road, nor to terrace. When it rained, I was forced to stay inside. Roads used to get sunk even after the rain of h...

Food Habits That I Am Going To Change This Year

This post is for New Year resolutions blog train . The blog train is hosted by Vartika, Alpana and Prerna,  sponsored by Pandora's Box and Recipe Dabba. My topic is Dr Feelgood - How are you planning to tweak your Food Habits for 2019 .   We all desire to stay healthy and happy. Yes, happiness is very much connected to our health. But today's sedentary lifestyle has made us fall for quick meals and unhealthy choices. Over the course of time, these quick things give us side effects that rather don't go quick. Eventually, we fall prey to weight loss industry which asks for cutting sugar, salt, oils, carbs, dairy product and almost everything which is there in our kitchens since our grandparents time. We run after different diets (Ketogenic diet, Vegan diet, Raw food diet etc) and we even believe in schemes like having dinner before sunset, getting rid of rice, keeping a distance with fruits and avoiding any type of fat. Is this way of keeping ourselves fit su...
