I will miss you Channel V - Channel V to shut down soon

If you belong to my generation of the 90s, let me give you a new. Star India's music channel V is dowing shutters this week and it will be replaced by some sports channel. I am soured to hear this because channel V was my childhood favourite music channel. And finally, it is getting closed . My childhood belongs to the time when a phenomenon called Indipop was rising in India. Young India was beginning to discover music celebrities who came with their western counterparts and the touch of rap along with fusion. Remember Baba Sehgal and Alisha Chinai. Leading to this phenomenon, two Indian channels came into the picture  in the late 1990s . One was MTV India. The other was channel V. My favourite was Channel V between these two as it had more Desi touch. Channel V shut stop this week as in the era of smartphone and internet, what purpose 24 x 7 music uncreative channels serve? While MTV figured out the changing behaviour of audiences early on in 2000s and rebranded itself as a ...

To, Dear Child in me…

Hello, Dear child in me.. First of all, Happy Children's Day.. You are an awesome personality. The way you look upon the world is just wow. Your way of talking, laughing, playing and not being judgemental at all make you really special. It is the quality of easily forgiving and letting it go in you that I always attempt to copy. Being such unaware of frowns or frauds is a blessing you have. You are a free person as your thoughts never bothered to go along with the theory of scare resources. You have it all which is why you are the most cherished part of my life.  I am writing to you today because I am missing you. I seriously believe that life is the way you do. The phase in my life when you lead me I had a wonderful life. Mine was a stress-free life though I was not even educated enough to get a job. I was playful and joyful from within. I still feel like playing with a balloon, though I need to save those pennies for some other use which may be more practical and...

Making Memories for My Son

We all have our favourite childhood memories and we love to recall them again and again. A few months back when I was at my mother’s place, my mother started telling me my childhood incidences noticing my son’s naughtiness. Although she has told me those tales many times yet I love listening to them more and more. When she was telling me how she spent those five days when I, as a newborn, was in the hospital, I realized that all my childhood memories are around my parents only. I find no one else in my memory clouds when I look back, although I used to die for many other family members. A Facebook post saying “ Kids don’t remember their best day of television ” suddenly flashed in front of me.  And then my guilt trip started thinking am I giving enough memories to my son for his future? I feel all SAH mothers are really lucky that they are participating in making beautiful memories for their kids. But for mothers like me who are working, the story is dif...

5 Must Watch Movies Of Sanjeev Kumar (A Tribute to him)

One of the finest performers of Indian cinema is Sanjeev Kumar  had said goodbye to the stage of this world on 6th of November in 1985. Most of us new generation people know him as Thakur of film Sholay , though this actor has played really versatile and soulful characters in many other remarkable Bollywood movies. The veteran actor of 80s was fit into any role from drama to action and from comedy to romance and to suspense also which made him win the national award for best actor in 1971 and 1973.  Let list here five best films of Sanjeev Kumar (according to me) that every cinema lover must watch : * Mausam : This 1975 film is an absolute fine piece of drama by Gulzar. In this film, Sanjeev Kumar played a young man for a short time while the entire story shows him as an old man who is a doctor in regret. Although this film is believed to be made alive by Sharmila Tagore who played a double role performing both mother as well as daughter, I find the role of Sanjeev...

The Eco of Appaji’s Thumari..

“Babul mora naihar chuto jaye..”, “Runak Jhunak Mori Baje payaliya..”, “Hamse najariya Kahe pheri ho balam..” and many more such are going to remain as the heritage of Indian classical music as the queen of thumari Appaji passed away.  To all music lovers, this is a moment of sob and sighs. However, those who have ever heard Appaji live in a performance or have ever heard her Raag and Taans with a devoted heart would certainly feel the echo of her voice in their ears just after they get this news.  Appaji was a music icon who not only broke the barriers of orthodox society that wanted to her voice caged inside the four walls of a house but also liberated thumari (a form of classical Indian music) from courts and kothas taking the same to internally applaud-able status.   Appaji was called by this name out of love and reverence by her disciples while her name on the hall of fame is written as Girija Devi. Girija is the name of the wife of Lord Shiva and the powe...
