Let’s talk about the kidney concern among women

We all have talked enough about women this Women's Day and had enough dose of Nari Shakti (strength of women). Let us now move further in the same direction by talking about keeping our women strong and by caring about the maintenance of the strength of women too.

World Kidney Day is observed every year on 9th of March by the world kidney organization. Specifically this year, world kidney day is celebrated with a women-centric theme that is “Kidney’s and Women Health: Include, Value, Empower”. The reason that women are so important to the universe when looked upon with the fact that close to 195 million women across the globe are victims of Chronic Kidney Diseases. Studies have pointed out that kidney problems stand for the 8th biggest reason of death among women. Approximately 600 thousand women die of some kidney disease every year in the world. Yes, the risk is quite high to care about the kidney health of women along with the care and concern showed for them at the international women’s day.

First of all, it needs to be cleared that kidney diseases are men-centric issues as the risk of getting affected by a kidney disease is no less than equal to that among men. Nevertheless, there are certain studies which claim the risk of getting a Chronic Kidney Diseases developed among women is higher than that in men. Some chronic kidney disease like lupus nephropathy (commonly called as kidney infection) is more likely to affect women than men.

Somehow, the data of people on kidney dialysis reveal that more men and fewer women resort to such treatment. But that is believed to be an effect of socioeconomic differences between the two genders. And what I personally feel is that women are less caring about their own kidney health. Women are from the age group of those able to get pregnant and feed a child might face even worse outcomes of ignoring a kidney issue.

No doubt the risk is un-ignorable high. Here are four key kidney health advises for women to keep your kidney health maintained:

Ensure controlled weight, diabetes and blood pressure: blood pressure and blood sugar are two common diseases that harm your kidney a lot. Follow a healthy lifestyle and balanced diet to ensure your blood sugar and blood pressure and weight are well managed. Controlling the three is going to save you from many other health issues.

Quit alcohol and smoking as soon as possible: it is well known that alcohol and smoking if you are addicted to it and also if you take it even occasionally. The lifestyle things these days take us to parties and gatherings where drinks are served. But that is simply a fun going to cost your life.

Avoid non-prescribed medicines: Women often take painkillers for back pain or menstrual pain without consulting from a doctor. Most of these painkillers contain things which are filtered by kidney and cause problems like a kidney stone. These medicines should always be avoided as these might give you temporary relief but long-term health issues.

Annual proactive kidney check-up: As women, you may be busy in managing the due responsibilities of family and work but the most important advice for you to prevent a chronic kidney disease is to proactively go for an annual kidney check-up. It might take a few precious moments of life but can gift you a risk-free healthy life. You may be tested for urine in which albumin is tested or tested for creatinine with a blood sample.

My 'Invisible' Accomplishments #DecadeHop #RRxMM

As we entered 2020, through this post I am trying to contemplate the coolest, most daring, and most significant feats of my life during the last decade. Now the more I regress my memory, the more I feel there are two types of achievements or accomplishments that I can ponder upon; Visible and Invisible. Visible ones are those that I can count on my finger like a parrot and others can nod also. I got specs on, married to a not-so-romantic man, produced a baby, started writing and added good 17 kgs in my body volume (I was 50 in 2011). However, there are many invisible accomplishments too that either I know silently or very few can assert. From 2011 to 2019, Who am I now From a coy soul to now an outspoken woman, the trek was not easy. I achieved it. From being a no-makeup girl to now a lipstick swatches observer, the transition was tough. But it happened. And from being a sweet hater to now a sweet lover, the change was mysterious yet occurred. And now I can die for Gulab Jamuns....

#MyFriendAlexa - Is Your Blog For Everyone?

A Bit of Introduction  Two months back, I joined a new company as a software project manager. And with this, I also shifted to a new city. I could not write much during this shifting time, as there were many other things that needed my attention on priority. A Letter to Teen Me - Passing wisdom about Motherhood

Dear Teen me, I know you have many dreams and aspiration for your future life. I very well understand the hard work that you are putting in for a bright career. I do admire your sense of identity and individualness. You are going great. However, there are few others things, about which I want to make you prepare well ahead.  Life is more than making your own path, especially when you are a woman. God has made women with additional responsibility for running this universe. You know which responsibility? It’s "Motherhood". I know that as of now you don’t have much understanding of this whole motherhood phase and what is being a Mother oneself. But, you see, you will be a Mother one day. And when you are a mother, you carry many other responsibilities on your shoulders other than just living for yourself. You are seeing Amma every day but that is the only single sided view of big Motherhood world. A mother lives for her child also. She lives for the dreams of her kids an...
